AD|Gifted What if I told you there was a really Crafty idea that makes an amazing gift for people who suffer anxiety. It’s a gift that has mental and physical health benefits, gives you the opportunity to create and is something that gives you new skills.
Knitting is your New best friend
Yes, you heard that right. Traditionally considered something that your Grandma would do, knitting is actually a very popular hobby and makes a fantastic gift.
I was recently gifted a kit from Love Crafts and thus started my journey into the world of creating.
Love Crafts is your one stop shop for all your knitting, crochet and embroidery needs. They offer lots of free patterns and high quality supplies you can buy. I was gifted a free scarf pattern, some 12 mm knitting needles and some gorgeous chunky MillaMia yarn in Cornflower.
Now initially I was going to add this idea into some of my amazing Valentines Gift Guides, but on reflection I thought this deserved a blog post of its own.
My knitting experience is very very limited. I was about 12 and my Mum tried to teach me. I was ridiculously bad and also not very interested at the time. Now I’m a little older (a lot older actually) and wiser. The idea of knitting really appealed to me. I love the idea of creating a scarf and gifting it to a friend or actually giving someone a kit as a gift so they can create something themselves.
I didn’t actually realise the brilliant health benefits knitting has on a person. But studies have shown that it :
- Reduces depression and anxiety.
- Distracts from chronic pain.
- Lowers heart rate and induces a state of calm.
- Relieves stress
- Promotes mindfulness
It is also a great hobby to have and if you’re good, you can even create things and sell.
How did I get on?
Knitting didn’t came to me naturally and I didn’t complete the project without any issues, but I expect that. I started slow, learnt to cast on and then slowly started knitting my scarf. I made quite a few mistakes on the way and had to undo and re-do a lot of stitches, but once I got the hang of it, it became easier and I started to improve. I am in no way a knitting pro, but I absolutely enjoyed learning a new skill and was super proud of what I created. If I can do it, anyone can and I really would encourage you to try.
Who Should I get this gift for?
Give this gift to anyone looking for a hobby but I think this would be most beneficial to a friend or family member who is stressed, suffers from depression or anxiety or someone who is lonely. There are so many knitting communities out there and Love Crafts have an online community too. This could be that perfect gift for a friend on Valentines or Galentines.
This would also be something to gift to yourself. Self care is very important as we all have really busy lives and gifting yourself a knitting Kit can help with practicing mindfulness and bringing calm and balance. Also a great gift for yourself or anyone who does suffer from depression and/or anxiety. I am not saying this is a cure to any illness (physical or mental) but science has shown it can be helpful.
You could also buy a knitting kit or any other craft kit and make something like the scarf I made and then gift that.
There are so many amazing reasons why this kit makes such a great gift. And I personally feel that this is the start of my knitting journey. I will be definite buying more yarn and trying to make different things. The possibilities are endless.
Love Crafts website also many other products available. So you can buy lots of quality products for newbie knitters and seasoned crafters too. It is really easy to choose and Love Crafts tell you whether a pattern is good for a beginner or a pro, so you’ll find it easy to choose.
My opinion on this gift is very positive. Anything that has a positive impact on health is a good gift in my opinion. I love the idea of this as a gift and I hope you all like it too. It’s a different kind of gift, but something that will bring great joy. Like I’ve said before, it is an amazing gift for people who suffer anxiety or depression and can help combat lonliness.
