On the 11th June 2019, I went to Exclusively housewares fair in London. The fair is an opportunity for trades people to display their products to buyers and an opportunity for bloggers like me to discover products on the market and gift trends 2019 that will be coming through for the next 18 months or so.
I had the opportunity to go see the brilliant Phil Pond from Scarlett Opus talk about the new and emerging trends of 2019 into 2020. I want to take this opportunity to share this information with my audience to give you an idea of what things are predicted to be popular so you can all stay ahead of the game.
The Traveller
One of the first trends Phil spoke about was the Traveller trend. He described it as a trend about establishing order and control to a new era – curious, confident and connected. It is about establishing a sense of fairness and mega transparency. We, the consumers, want a story. Buying something from the retailers isn’t just about getting a product, it’s about finding out the whole background of the product. People are looking for an experience and not price.
According to Phil at Scarlet Opus, we will be entering the roaring 2020’s with glamorous inspiration from the 1920’s. Christmas will be inspired by the 1920’s era; think Great Gatsby style glamour.
Colours and materials that reflect this trend
This trend is all about mature luxuriousness. Below are the colour and material trends for next season and Christmas.

As you can see, there will be a lot of Dark wood, brass and deep rich velvety blue around. And these colours and materials are the ones to buy.
When you’re thinking of buying a gift for someone, I would assume that the colours in this pallet are the ones that will sell out first, so if you’re wanting to be ahead of the game, whenever you’re picking your presents, buy these on trend colours and you can’t go wrong.
Satori
Satori in Japanese can be translated as sudden enlightenment or awakening. It means seeing something through fresh eyes. This trend will focus on Japanese heritage and traditions. This trend is all about reflecting on the art of living, achieving balance and finding a moderate pace in our lives. It’s about getting rid of the unnecessary and focussing on your true self. This is my personal favourite of the gift trends of 2019.
Colours and materials that reflect this trend
Products encompassing this trend will be made from, dependable natural and honest materials like wood. As you can see from the materials list, it’s all about nature and simplicity.

The Fellowship
Before all you book worms get excited, this trend has got nothing to do with Lord of the Rings. Whilst the satori trend is all about awakening and enlightenment, the fellowship trend is all about community and collectiveness. A global trend that celebrates diversity. A desire to co-operate with others. Ethics are at the centre of decision making and the trend is about working together to establish a better future.
Colours and materials that reflect this trend
The colours in this trend are bright and vibrant. Its colourful, relaxed and individual.

What has this got to do with Gifts?
Why is a gift blogger writing about trends I hear you ask? Well, my reason for this is simple. These trends generally start with fashion and filter down to everything else.
These trends dictate the products we see in the shops and online. It’s good to be aware of emerging trends, so you know what colours and materials to look out for and what will be popular.
For example, if you’re buying homewares as gift, you’ll have an understanding of what things are in and what is popular and by knowing about trends, you can raise the level of your gift game by not buying something outdated.
Another huge advantage of knowing the trends when gifting is you can shop earlier and put those Christmas presents away before the mad rush starts. You can plan your Christmas gifts in advance and know that if you buy these colours materials a few months before Christmas, they are not going to be out of date when it comes to Christmas.
You are now armed with the knowledge of 2019/2020 trends. Use it wisely.
I also have a Japanese inspired Gift Guide which has been mentioned in the gift trends 2019, if you would like some gift inspiration.
What do you all think to the emerging trends? You can get more information on these trends on the Scarlet Opus website. Let me know what you think of this post and if you’d like to see gift examples of emerging trends. I would love to interact with you all, so leave a comment here or alternatively chat to me on Twitter or instagram.
Until next time, gift goodie is over and out.
